Healthcare reform...my granddaughter could have died tonight
I wasn't going to start a discussion about this because I'm too emotionally raw right now but I feel compelled to share this on behalf of my granddaughter and everyone else like her.As some of you already know my granddaughter has type 1 diabetes and dealing with her illness has been difficult ever since she was diagnosed 6 years ago. She had a birthday on April 16th. She turned 19 and is no longer covered on her mother's employer provided insurance. Because of the seriousness of her illness my granddaughter, her mother and I have searched high and low for some kind of insurance coverage for her.She is uninsurable. Denied again and again because of her preexisting condition and the fact that she has been hospitalized many times because of it. Katie works 2 part-time jobs because she has not been able to find a full time job and that is not due to a lack of trying. She's willing to do anything in exchange for employer provided health insurance because of her medical condition. She also goes to college part time. Her insulin and testing strips alone cost over $200 each month. But, that's minor compared to what happened today.Today my step daughter went home for lunch. My...
Are You Voting Republican Due To the Passing of Healthcare Reform?
There's no doubt the passing of healthcare Reform angered many people in which some cases resulted in violence. A poll showed a majority disapproved of the bill and many think the government overstepped its boundaries. I wouldn't vote Republican due to the passing of Healthcare Reform. It would take something else for me to vote Republican.o do anything in exchange for employer provided health insurance because of her medical condition. She also goes to college part time. Her insulin and testing strips alone cost over $200 each month. But, that's minor compared to what happened today.Today my step daughter went home for lunch. My granddaughter was home and she was very, very sick. Her sugar was through the roof, she was barely able to talk and was having trouble breathing. She hadn't told anyone that she was having problems for two days. She tried to deal with it herself because she didn't want to incure any expenses that she couldn't afford to cover on her own and she didn't want to burden anyone in the family even though so many of us have insisted that we will help with all of her medical expenses. She was unable to walk on her own and,...

Healthcare, isn't it supposed to be a good thing?
With the passing of  the healthcare Bill, why are so many people against such a move which in theory provides healthcare for ALL Americans? The only reasons given that it is unconstitutional or the US cannot afford it. But surely, if we have a free NHS in the UK for the last 60 years, and other Europeans enjoy, why was healthcare so dependant on insurance. 32 million Americans currently do not have insurance, the Bill, in theory covers them. But forgive me, I do not know the full politics because I do not live in the US, but on face value, this is a good thing right? Can someone enlighten me what the fuss is about?o do anything in exchange for employer provided health insurance because of her medical condition. She also goes to college part time. Her insulin and testing strips alone cost over $200 each month. But, that's minor compared to what happened today.Today my step daughter went home for lunch. Now that healthcare has passed
and Barack Obama's forthcoming trip to Australia will begin shortly and with his penchant for international spending, may we expect to hear that a billion dollars will be forthcoming to Australia for the further study of why kangaroos have pouches? Or, if koalas and sloths couldn't be motorized? Or, why Crocodile Dundee wasn't jailed for killing that croc in the movie?Ain't it grand that we are so rich, we can support the rest of the world, but can't get jobs for our own people?
What's the deal with healthcare reform?
I've seen it on the news and all, and yet I still don't really get what's going on. I'm a kid by the way--please help me understand. I feel like it's really important, but at the same time--I feel like I'm missing out on this historic moment.
Let's Kill the Healthcare Bill
In addition to writing/calling your Congresspersons, there is an online petition at http://www.firedoglake.com where you can sign and express your thoughts on the healthcare bill. If you are not in favor of the health care catatastrophe Congress is trying to pass, go there and speak up.
Healthcare Reform 2009
The Healthcare Reform is around the corner. Whether it includes a public option or not. Personally, I really hope the public option IS included. We all need to have options whenever we are choosing medical insurance. It's just fare. The people that are opposing it are just doing it to give a hard time to the Democrat Party, even if it takes to screw up the millions of people that will benefit from it. There should be polls on the TV, Radio and the internet just to see how many people will vote for it or against it. That way we will really hear the voices of the citizens and not just the group noise-makers, progress-preventers.
