| Retail Storys | | Ever had a job were theirs some interesting things that go on or just that you have experienced or heard about? Well when working in retail you see lots of stuff common to not so common. Lets start of by telling you about seeing people who looked like they were Amish. The family wife had on her bonnet and dress as did the little girl as for the husband he had on overalls with that farmer face. It seemed they didn't even pluck their browse because the little one looked as if to have a uni brow. Its something you don't see every day. The other thing wich I think is kool is to see nuns shopping for food. A group of sisters looking for stuff in their nun outfits. Here's a time to drive this lady driving a motor cart getting stuff got up to get an item and one of the employees sayed mam your carts on fire. A flame or to was their strange hu? One time their was a man who asked me were old spice was because as he put it he wanted to have fun with the lady's and wanted to smell good for them his last words were thanks and I'm a sexy man can't wait to put on my charm. That was funny I can't believe someone would do such a funny thing, but on the other hand sense working in retail I now... | |
| | Favorite Retail Shops/Stores | | What are the shops that you always love go back over and over? Is the Gap, Banana Republic? What about those one stop shop types like Target, K-Mart? Walmart? Would you go for those too? Your thoughts? | |
| | eBay, NRF Take On Retail Crime | | http://auctiva.com/edu/entry.aspx?id=eBay-NRF-Take-On-Retail-CrimeThe story is a little more in depthBasically a couple got sentenced after they got caught selling stolen toys on eBay. They boasted about it on the Dr. Phil Show in 2008.How dumb was that to begin with?[em]duncecap[/em] A moment of fame[em]cheering[/em] turned bad.[em]cry[/em]Sometime i just cannot believe the stories I read. Are people really that oblivious that this will not happen to them? The will not get caught?eBay and the National Retail Federation are planning a partnership (if it goes as planned) to catch and prosecute more retail criminals in the future and a few other things will be going as well.I like the concept but what happens to those that purchase in bulk or off Craigslist to resell on the online venue and find out later that the merchandise was stolen? Are prosecutable for being in the possession of stolen goods? Where is the fine line going to be drawn? Your thoughts? | |

| | Retail Sales. | | Let us give a little background here. Firstly, I am a network marketer, yawn, or gag, or cheer, depending on how you feel fit. I am in a bit of a dilemma right now though, as a network marketer, we need to build a downline organization, and then help the people below us build theirs, the best way, is complete devotion, one at a time, until they are better at it then we are. But, recently, my Network Marketing Company, updated their pay plan...they are introducing a Break Even Bonus, which basically means, they will pay 50% of the point volume of my customers orders, into my auto-ship, which I need to maintain my pin level qualification. Now, we have great products, but I am having a little trouble advertising the products, without presenting the opportunity, which not everyone is interested in. So, I was wondering my dear friends on MyLot, what do you recommend for advertising Just the Products? Thank you in advance for your assistance, I know I will get wonderfully great responses, and I appreciate each and every one of you.Cheers. | |
| | Retail and how custmers can be a pain | | Anyone work at retail? I do I like when people bring their manners to work espically when you are helping them with what they need. I get so many people who don't care what they say to you as long as they get their assistance. I'v even got people bothering me on my break headphones and phone up to my ear. What is with people these days and why do they think they can just hassle you or make it on their time to ask of you when you are trying to enjoy your day. Numerous of times I'v had to explain things time and time again where something is and they ask for you to show them even though its in the next isle you tell them and where the middle or top shelf just look man and you shall see what I'm talking about. Blocking isle is some peoples favorite thing to do when they can move their cart on the side where they are not have them on one side and a cart on the other. Its so hard to work with this without being frustrated just move to the side and don't do it again cause some people don't get the hint when they move their cart back were it is and I have to go back their. Also they have a crowed and stand in a isle like a reuion. Tell me what bugs you share with the class its ok its... | |
| | Do you work in retail? If so, which department? | | What store (or type of store) do you work at, and which department within that store do you typically work in? I work at Macy's and I'm just curious to hear from others who work in retail and have retail experience. Which department do you work in, and how busy does it get during sales?I've worked in several, as they tend to rotate me to wherever they need me (as I'm a part-time "on call" support associate), so I've been in almost every section. I've found that during sales, the WORST place to be in is home - specifically housewares and textiles (pots, pans, appliances, cookware, etc) - every customer has a question, needs to find something we don't have, needs help carrying things to a register (ugh), and it's generally a very cramped area. Another bad area for us is juniors - just because it's such a huge section and is such a wreck once a what seems like a million teenagers tear through it. Sizing, general recovery, & fitting room recovery are the biggest issues..But also general cleanliness (people leave their garbage everywhere! ugh!). I'm thankful when I'm NOT put in those departments during sales. I typically work in a section called "Ready to Wear" (womens' clothes),... | |
| | Doing inventory at a retail store? | | Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm curious because starting tomorrow evening, I'll be working the overnight shift for a week to do inventory at Macy's. What is the point of doing inventory, exactly? Is it to determine shortages? And do you have any tips for me (as I have never done it before). What I'm a little worried about is being reprimanded about not being 100% accurate.Have you ever done inventory as a part of your job at a retail store?
How accurate are YOU when you do inventory?
& do you have any tips for someone who has never done it before (and only received minimal training)?hrough it. Sizing, general recovery, & fitting room recovery are the biggest issues..But also general cleanliness (people leave their garbage everywhere! ugh!). I'm thankful when I'm NOT put in those departments during sales. I typically work in a section called "Ready to Wear" (womens' clothes), which can get busy, but is generally calm and not too hectic. What department do you work in (and at what store?!) and which do you think are the best/worst departments to work in? & why? | |
| | "Retail Hell" - has anyone read this? | | I heard about this book and I wanted to see if anyone's read it. I recently started working in retail myself, and I heard that it had some funny stories which might help me alleviate some stress that I have while working in retail myself. Has anyone read this? If so, is it worth reading? What are your thoughts? | |
