| 60's R&B and jazz | | I have tickets to go see Etta James at Mystic Lake Casino April 1st. Now this woman has had her share of troubles and trials in her 50 plus year carreer. She has a CD out with songs by prince, James Brown and many other artists of the 70's and up. She is basically a R & B artist but does jazz tunes and old time rock as well. Few R&B singers have endured tragic travails on the monumental level that Etta James has and remain on earth to talk about it. The lady's no shrinking violet her autobiography, Rage to Survive, describes her past (including numerous drug addictions) in sordid detail. I am so looking forward to hearing her voice again. I have not heard from Etta James in many years and was surprised to her she's on tour again. Her raw, unharnessed vocals and hot-blooded eroticism has made disciples of singers ranging from Janis Joplin to Bonnie Raitt. James’ pioneering 1950s hits - “The Wallflower” and “Good Rockin’ Daddy” - assure her place in the early history of rock and roll alongside Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Ray Charles. In the Sixties, as a soulful singer of pop and blues diva compared with the likes of Dinah Washington and... | |
| | New School vs. Old School | | You hear it said on the ball field, the basketball court and the gridiron all the time.
“That boy, he’s Old School.”
You never hear anyone referred to as New School.
I'm wondering if there's something wrong with New School. Maybe it's not all that great, but it did get me to thinking about New School vs. Old School when it comes to every day life.
Here's a start to the list. Can you come up with any New and Old School comparisions?New School: Compaq Presario with Pentium IV processor

| | I feel good! | | I sound like James Brown, LOL!
This coming week there is going to be a huge trash pick up in my neighborhood. This is our chance to throw out all our old junk like sofas and televisions that are just taking up space.
We spent the last three hours just cleaning up our vacant side of the house and throwing out old broken items and an old sofa and so much other stuff. Our curb is jam packed with all this junk, but it feels so good to be rid of it!
I still have the whole basement to go through, and haven't even done the inside of the side of the house we actually occupy, but most of that will be typical trash they will take on any typical week. If nothing else, we have another junk day in November.
Doesn't it just give you such a good feeling to accomplish something like this?
| | wesley snipes in jail? | | Now i know this si no news to us again, but i have a problem with understanding why most people who are stars always end up being on the wrong side of the law,ok to mention a few, michael jackson was on the verge of loosing his nevada ranch why?because of unpaid debts, james brown died and left almost notheing, why again?tax related amtteres and debtss, now passenger 57 star wesley snipes is convicted of not paying his taxes hence he has to be jailed inspite of the money he has made,it seems these guys think they can get away with just about anything or why cant they just stay within the law?Is it also a tradition or a law that once you attain stardom you must have a brush with the law? | |
| | Legends of the Fifties and Sixties | | So how many of you are Motown and Old Time Rock N Roll Lovers? Share your Memories on all the Motown Sounds you remember and all the concerts you can remember. As for me, the list is way to long to remember all of the Great Bands from then that I saw. But, I must say I was born late in the 50's so I missed a good majority of the legends of the sounds of Old Time Soul and Rock n Roll. My list starts with Little Richard, Temptations, Ojay's, Four Tops, Al Green, Turtles, Bobby Sherman, Monkees, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Neil Sadaka, Tiny Tim, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Tom Jones,,James Brown, Spinners, Paul Anka, Bobby Daren and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and last but not least The Beach Boys. From the time I was 14, I knew this was the Era I should have been born. Attending The Ohio State Fair and seeing all these wonderful bands in concert every summer for free. It was the greatest most fond memories I can remember. I have this Great Love for music, and cherish every bit of it. This is what makes me happy the most. Good Music to dance to, sing too, and keep me smiling. | |
| | Do U like to James Brown? | | I just knew few tracks of him since I found there's a lot of his songs on youtube and I kind of had my crush.
His music is so energetic and transcending...

| | | What's your favorite Christmas Carol, CD, song, or singer? | | I have a favorite holiday CD that I like listening to this time of year. It's got James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Elvis, and all the good oldie singers on it. I don't particularly like Christmas Carols but I love this CD because of the singers on it. I just love the soul, power, and emotion in their voices.
Do you ever find this to be true - that you like a song more for the singer than the actual song? Do you have a favorite holiday CD and if so what makes it special for you?
